"
- Hector warning Lorry to be careful

Lorry Takes a Tumble is the seventh episode of the first season.

Plot[]

Brendam Docks is a busy place with many important goods. The engines are usually tasked with delivering the packages, but sometimes, they can only be delivered by road. Lorry came to the Island to do just that, but despises his job and the engines.

Lorry races into the Docks and Hector the large truck warns him to be more careful. Lorry insults Hector, which angers Murdoch and Oliver. Lorry sneers that he doesn't need to be told what to do and fumes away.

There is a special part of the Island called The Boardwalk. It gives road vehicles easier access to The Construction Site. Everyday Lorry has to take packages across the narrow Boardwalk to the workmen at the Construction Site.

The next morning, it is foggy and the visibility is low. Lorry races to the end of The Boardwalk to collect a package. Lorry dismisses the workmen's warning to be careful. Lorry starts reversing quickly, but suddenly his wheels slip on the slick road! He loses control and is left dangling on the side of The Boardwalk. The heavy package falls out of Lorry's bed and crashes to the ground below. He cries out for help but it is too late and he tumbles off The Boardwalk.

Harvey soon arrives with the Breakdown Train and Sir Topham Hatt comes to speak with Lorry. Mike arrives with a flatbed since Lorry is in no condition to drive. Sir Topham Hatt scolds Lorry and angrily explains that his package was meant for the Duke and Duchess. Sir Topham Hatt tells Lorry he will be repaired at the works and it could take several weeks. He then congratulates Mike for helping out and tells Mike that his trial is over and he will stay on Sodor. Mike happily puffs away, while talking to Lorry about how silly he is.

    • The first time where an accident leads to serious damage
    • The first episode to focus on a road vehicle primarily
    • The first episode to not mention Thomas outside of the opening introduction
    • The first episode where the fourth wall is broken [UNVERIFIED]

    • Bulgy
  • The first speaking roles of:
    • Hector
    • Lorry 1
    • Harvey
  • Lorry's official name is "Lorry 1", but he is called "Lorry" by the narrator and the engines throughout the story because there are no other Lorries on Sodor at this point.
  • This episode shares a very similar title with a Thomas & Friends TV series episode, Gordon Takes a Tumble.

Goofs[]

  • After leaving the Docks, Lorry is uncoupled from his flatbed and lifted to the Boardwalk, on another part of the layout.
  • ThomasWoodenRailway sniffs before bringing Lorry onto the Boardwalk. Throughout the episode, it sounds like he has some type of sickness.
  • With the change of the day during the story, Lorry is grabbed and positioned back on the boardwalk.
  • The package is loaded onto Lorry by hand instead of the workmen.
  • There is an error in the narration when it is said, "And The Yard froze". The camera pans around the entire layout, so the use of "The Yard" is incorrect.
  • There is another error in narration when it is said, "'Oh my head!' he said. 'It hurts'". Lorry is a vehicle and does not have a "head".
  • It is said that Sir Topham Hatt arrives, but he has been standing by the tunnel the entire episode.
  • When Sir Topham Hatt is first positioned, he falls backward.
  • Harvey does not help Lorry back onto the road, it is done by hand.
  • Sir Topham Hatt falls over again.
  • There is an error in narration when Sir Topham Hatt says, "Now you may go into that siding and rest". The track Harvey backs onto is not a siding, but rather part of a main line.
  • When Lorry is first placed on the flatbed, he falls over.
  • There is a plot hole when Sir Topham Hatt says that the package Lorry was supposed to deliver was for the Duke and Duchess. The package was located at the construction site with the workmen and it is unclear what the rich couple would want it for.
  • Throughout the episode, both the British and American terms for rolling stock are used, 'trucks' and 'cars'.
  • Lorry is referred to as a 'truck' several times. 'Truck' is the American term for Lorry (a British word), so the words are interchangeable, but not to be used in the same sentence as it's confusing.
